chamado de Morro da Liberdade. Alguns historiadores apontam que o local era rota de fuga para escravizados. Conhecido popularmente como Morro do Cristo, o Morro do Imperador recebeu seu nome em homenagem ao imperador D. Pedro II que, em suas visitas a Juiz de Fora, sempre subia a montanha para vislumbrar a cidade que se formava. Em 1861, o imperador esteve no local por ocasi\u00e3o da inaugura\u00e7\u00e3o da estrada Uni\u00e3o e Ind\u00fastria.<\/p><p>O comerciante e empreendedor Francisco Baptista de Oliveira implantou pela primeira vez, em solo nacional, a ideia de ter uma imagem crist\u00e3 aben\u00e7oando a cidade sob seus p\u00e9s. Ele faleceu prematuramente e n\u00e3o conseguiu ver o projeto conclu\u00eddo.<\/p><p>Iniciada em 1902 e inaugurada em novembro de 1905, durante as comemora\u00e7\u00f5es da passagem do s\u00e9culo, a constru\u00e7\u00e3o do Cristo no Morro do Imperador \u00e9 a primeira do Brasil, com capela, torre de 25 metros e est\u00e1tua de 3,75 metros\u00a0importada da Maison Raffe, de Paris. Como compara\u00e7\u00e3o, o monumento do Corcovado, no\u00a0Rio de Janeiro, foi inaugurado em 1931.<\/p><p>O monumento ao Cristo Redentor simboliza a vit\u00f3ria contra uma epidemia que assolou o munic\u00edpio. A elabora\u00e7\u00e3o do projeto e a execu\u00e7\u00e3o da obra foram conduzidas pela Companhia Pantaleone Arcuri &amp; Spinelli, uma das construtoras mais importantes da cidade, respons\u00e1vel pela edifica\u00e7\u00e3o de im\u00f3veis que caracterizam a paisagem de Juiz de Fora, como o Cine-Theatro Central e o Pa\u00e7o Municipal.<\/p><p>Em 1947, o primeiro prefeito eleito pelo povo em Juiz de Fora, Dilermando Martins da Costa Cruz Filho, criou o Parque do Redentor com a constru\u00e7\u00e3o de um mirante no Morro do Cristo, com muros e grades, que permitiam mais seguran\u00e7a aos visitantes.<\/p><p>J\u00e1 em 1964, a Organiza\u00e7\u00e3o S\u00e9rgio Mendes construiu no local a edifica\u00e7\u00e3o modernista com uma torre helicoidal, \u00fanica do mundo de acordo com a imprensa da \u00e9poca. A constru\u00e7\u00e3o foi especialmente planejada para abrigar a primeira Esta\u00e7\u00e3o de Televis\u00e3o da cidade e a primeira particular de Minas Gerais, a TV-R\u00e1dio Industrial. A edifica\u00e7\u00e3o demonstrava todo o progresso e esp\u00edrito modernista do munic\u00edpio e capacitou a cidade para ter programa\u00e7\u00e3o pr\u00f3pria ao inv\u00e9s de apenas realizar retransmiss\u00f5es. Outro marco do pioneirismo de Juiz de Fora foi a primeira transmiss\u00e3o de TV no Brasil, que aconteceu no Parque Halfed, com uma c\u00e2mera constru\u00edda por Olavo Bastos Freire. Ele transmitiu um jogo de futebol em 28 de setembro de 1948.\u00a0<\/p><p>Em 1970, o ex-presidente Itamar Franco, ent\u00e3o prefeito de Juiz de Fora, construiu no Morro do Imperador o Mirante Salles de Oliveira, popularmente conhecido como Mirante do Cristo, com um projeto moderno e arrojado do arquiteto Jean Kamil.<\/p><p>De acordo com o historiador Roberto Dilly, o Morro do Imperador foi palco de piqueniques da popula\u00e7\u00e3o que, aos domingos e feriados, reuniam fam\u00edlias inteiras nesta atividade de lazer. Tamb\u00e9m foi testemunha de atividades da m\u00fasica, de escolas de samba e de manifesta\u00e7\u00f5es religiosas.<\/p><p>Em 2014, o local passou por uma reforma que incluiu ilumina\u00e7\u00e3o, pintura, poda, capina e limpeza. Toda a parte el\u00e9trica foi modificada, ampliando a capacidade de ilumina\u00e7\u00e3o do espa\u00e7o. A torre de TV, que antes n\u00e3o era iluminada, passou a ter refletores de vapor met\u00e1lico. Outra mudan\u00e7a ocorreu na capela, que voltou a ter as cores originais: branca, com detalhes em camur\u00e7a, bege e cinza. Al\u00e9m da capela, tamb\u00e9m foram pintados os bancos, o mirante, o parquinho e os canteiros.<\/p><p>O Morro do Imperador \u00e9 um dos pontos mais altos de Juiz de Fora, localizado a 923 metros do n\u00edvel do mar. O local foi tombado pelo munic\u00edpio em 1990 e possui uma conforma\u00e7\u00e3o geogr\u00e1fica que funciona como barreira natural que orientou a constitui\u00e7\u00e3o urbana de Juiz de Fora, que tem sua \u00e1rea central localizada na base do morro.<\/p><p>De valor hist\u00f3rico, cultural, paisag\u00edstico e ambiental, o Morro do Imperador possui tamb\u00e9m um grande valor ecol\u00f3gico que prov\u00e9m das encostas revestidas de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o heterog\u00eanea, com \u00e1rvores de v\u00e1rios portes e est\u00e1gios vegetativos diversos, que funcionam como agentes de equil\u00edbrio ambiental.<\/p><p>O local \u00e9 uma \u00e1rea de lazer e turismo, do qual se tem uma vis\u00e3o abrangente da cidade de Juiz de Fora e regi\u00f5es circunvizinhas, constituindo um monumento natural integrado de maneira imponente e harmoniosa com a cidade. Seu tombamento abrange o Morro do Redentor, al\u00e9m dos aspectos paisag\u00edsticos constitu\u00eddos pela forma\u00e7\u00e3o rochosa e a mata.<\/p><p>A Trilha do Tost\u00e3o (ou Trilha do Cristo), uma das mais conhecidas\u00a0Juiz de Fora, liga o Morro do Cristo \u00e0 Rua Constantino Paleta, no centro da cidade.
